Flesh & Pixel

Flesh & Pixel was an exhibition curated and organised by Niah McGiff, held in the East Court of Alexandra Palace. Bringing together nine artists working across painting, film, sculpture, and textiles, the exhibition presents a wide range of practices, from filmmaking to textile-based work.

The title offers a loose conceptual framework, touching on the interplay between material, body, and image in the present moment. It gestures toward the crossings between the physical and the digital, asking what it means to make and to live at a time when experience is increasingly mediated through digital forms. Rather than narrowing the focus, Flesh & Pixel opens a space for diverse practices to sit in relation to one another.

Alexandra Palace carries a long history as a public entertainment venue, built in the nineteenth century as “The People’s Palace,” dedicated to education, leisure, and collective experience. For McGiff, the site holds personal significance. Growing up near the Palace, she spent time playing in its courts as a child. Curating an exhibition within this space marks a full-circle moment, connecting personal memory, public history, and contemporary artistic practice.

Participating artists: Fen Chirathivat, Louis Loveless, Pandora Covell, Reuben P Haynes, Taylor Silk, Tom Saint, Oscar B Ezer, Niah McGiff, and Tiwa Akinjide.
